Kontakion 1

In joy of heart let us hymn with songs the newly revealed star of Orthodoxy, the newly erected bulwark of the Church; for, glorified by the activity of the Spirit, he pours forth the abundant grace of healings upon those who cry:

Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Ikos 1

In the world you were shown to be a man of heavenly mind, O Nektarios, heirarch of Christ; for having passed through life in holiness, you were shown to be blameless, venerable and God-pleasing in all things. Wherefore, you hear from us such praises as these:

Rejoice, you by whom the faithful are edified;
rejoice, you of whom the enemy is afraid!
Rejoice, emulator of the venerable fathers;
rejoice, divine teacher of the Orthodox!
Rejoice, you for whom the Church joins chorus;
rejoice, you in whom Aegina rejoices!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 2

Having adorned yourself with meekness of soul from your youth, O holy father, one fervent desire consumed your heart: to become a preacher of the Holy Gospel. From childhood you knew the Scriptures which are able to make man wise for salvation, teaching them to cry: Alleluia.

Ikos 2

When you left your home and traveled to Constantinople, you labored in the midst of worldly distractions. Yet you did not forsake the Faith which dwelt first in your grandmother and mother and also dwelt in thee, steadfastly dedicating yourself to prayer and to the sayings of the Fathers, which you wrote on packages and wrappings so that others might read them and receive spiritual profit. Wherefore, to one who was in the world but not of it, we the faithful cry aloud in thanksgiving:

Rejoice, most holy temple of the activity of God;
rejoice, divinely inscribed book of new morals!
Rejoice, for you made yourself like unto the saints in perfection;
rejoice, for you wisely spurned material things!
Rejoice, splendid victory of the Faith;
rejoice, honored clarion of grace!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 3

As a fervent lover of the monastic life, you often visited the Monastery of the Holy Fathers, conversing there about the spiritual struggle with its holy founder, Elder Pachomios. As you aspired to the angelic habit, you were tonsured and dedicated yourself to prayer on behalf of the people as you sang: Alleluia!

Ikos 3

Wholly consumed with the love of heavenly knowledge, you received a blessing to continue your theological education to which you devoted yourself with zeal and self-denial. While living in Athens, you studied day and night, knowing no other roads but that to the school and to the Church. Wherefore, as to our instructor in heavenly theology, we your children joyfully cry:

Rejoice, great pillar of piety;
rejoice, city of refuge for the faithful!
Rejoice, firm stronghold of Orthodoxy;
rejoice, venerable vessel and praise of the Holy Trinity!
Rejoice, you who shone forth in these latter times like a never-setting sun;
rejoice, you who pour forth the nectar of grace upon all believers.
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 4

Arrayed in true holiness and pure morals, Patriarch Sophronios of Alexandria saw in you great potential for service to Christ’s Holy Church. You were ordained to the sacred priesthood and elevated to the office of Bishop. O wise one, you offered your life to Christ as a pure sacrifice, ever chanting: Alleluia!

Ikos 4

In your position as Metropolitan of Pentapolis, you were deeply loved by the faithful, for clothed in the vesture of the hierarchy, you adorned your life with humility. Ever disdainful of material possessions, you opened your hand freely and distributed your alms to the poor. Like your Master, you willingly came not to be served but to serve and to give your life as a ransom for many. Conquered by your love, we who honor your holy memory cry unto you thus:

Rejoice, model of lambs and shepherds;
rejoice, pure and honorable abode of holiness!
Rejoice, worthy converser with angels;
rejoice, good guide of men!
Rejoice, for through you we are delivered from bodily passions;
rejoice, for through you we are filled with spiritual delights!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 5

When the enemy of our souls saw you laboring in humility, he could not abide your holy presence among the people. Raising up slanders, inciting rumors, he sought to destroy your good name and to lead you to bitterness and anger. But you overcame all of his devices, for in all things you didst meekly chant unto God: Alleluia!

Ikos 5

Lacking even your daily bread, slandered on all sides, you prayed for your accusers, begging the Father to forgive them. Refusing to speak one word in your defense, you joyfully suffered according to the will of God, committing yourself to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator. Wherefore, amazed by your long-suffering and steadfast endurance, we your children exclaim:

Rejoice, treasury of great mercy;
rejoice, inexhaustible bread for the hungry!
Rejoice, container of great virtues;
rejoice, model of spiritual meekness!
Rejoice, you who said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they have done;”
rejoice, you who repaid evil with good!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 6

Having within you a strong desire for the life of stillness on the Holy Mountain, you could not abandon the people but heeded their call to remain in the world and to proclaim the words of salvation. Freely you received and freely you gave, calling all men to exclaim: Alleluia!

Ikos 6

With the words of your mouth you dropped heavenly sweetness into the hearts of those who accepted your words with faith, directing the minds of the faithful to seek those things which are above. The sacred writings of your teachings continually gladden the souls of the pious; for moved by the Holy Spirit, O Father, you wisely recorded words of grace and instruction for those who cry to you:

Rejoice, faithful servant of the Most Holy Trinity;
rejoice, habitation adorned of the Holy Spirit.
Rejoice, light that illumines all the ends of the earth;
rejoice, you who delivers people from the abyss of sin!
Rejoice, you who exalts truth;
rejoice, you who dispells falsehood!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 7

Invited to assume the direction of the Rizarios Ecclesiastical School, you brought peace where there once existed confusion, for you treated all as a loving father. Wherefore your students in gratitude sang to God: Alleluia!

Ikos 7

Strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, having received the words of Life, you committed these to faithful men who, because of your good instruction and spiritual example, were enabled to teach them to others. Enduring hardships as a good soldier of Christ, you did not entangle yourself in the affairs of this life but thought only how to please the Master. Therefore, as to a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, we cry out to you in words such as these:

Rejoice, teacher of the divine commandments;
rejoice, you who makes wise the unwise by your teachings!
Rejoice, new Paul, who has bequeathed to us the pattern of sound words;
rejoice, new Jude, who has given us the exhortation to contend earnestly for the faith!
Rejoice, new Chrysostom, who has poured forth upon the Church the heavenly nectar of piety;
rejoice, new Damascene, who has defended the faithful from impious doctrines!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 8

Wisely adorned with understanding and meekness, you brought together venerable virgins in godliness, leading them to Christ by your words and the works of your blameless life, teaching them to sing: Alleluia!

Ikos 8

Listening to your prayers and earnest supplications, the Lord Who does the will of those who fear him, led you to the island of Aegina where you rebuilt the monastery which had been abandoned. Who can describe your labors and toils? Exercising vigilance in all things, you showed forth a model of divine virtue. Your spiritual daughters in thanksgiving cry to you thus:

Rejoice, pure and honorable abode of holiness;
rejoice, all-luminous lamp, beloved by all!
Rejoice, worthy converser with angels;
rejoice, good guide of men!
Rejoice, pious rule of faith;
rejoice, holy purification of mortals!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 9

Worldly-minded men cannot understand your patience, for despite the many cares of the monastery, you did not cease writing edifying books for Christians living in the world. Wherefore, amazed at the great wisdom which you were given, we cry to God: Alleluia!

Ikos 9

Having settled at the Monastery in Aegina, you became all spirit and led an altogether spiritual life. Venerable, meek, kindly, humble, extremely compassionate and charitable, you carried on the good fight in order to lay hold of that which for which Christ Jesus laid hold of you. In your pious ways you blamelessly followed Dionysios, the godly pastor of Aegina. Now as you partake of heavenly glory with him, receive from us these praises:

Rejoice, you who despised the world and its delusive pleasures;
rejoice, you who received in exchange heavenly blessings!
Rejoice, you who completely subdued your flesh to your spirit;
rejoice, you who subjected your spirit to your sweetest Lord Jesus!
Rejoice, lover of the holy Fathers;
rejoice, instructor in the prayer of the heart!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 10

Never neglecting mental prayer but always crying from the depths of your heart, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me,” all bore witness that you had become completely spiritualized. Noticing in you an exceptional sweetness which radiated from your serene countenance, the faithful joyfully exclaimed: Alleluia!

Ikos 10

Knowing that the Most Holy Virgin is a bulwark for all saints and a joy to monastics, you often offered your intercessions to her with tears and commited yourself to her motherly protection. Writing beautiful hymns, you gave to the faithful the gift of your love teaching them to sing, “Rejoice, O unwedded Bride!” Therefore, we cry to you:

Rejoice, precious chosen one of Christ;
rejoice, unblemished fragrance of God!
Rejoice, you who showed flaming love for the Lord;
rejoice, you who always honored His Holy Mother!
Rejoice, boast of the Orthodox Church;
rejoice, you who work many miracles through the power of God!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 11

When the time came for you to depart to Christ to receive the Crown of righteousness laid up for thee in heaven, you endured severe pain and suffering with exemplary patience. Always thanking the Heavenly Father and blessing His all-holy name, you continually cried: Alleluia!

Ikos 11

The Lord, Who always glorifies those who glorify Him, did not allow your virtue to be hidden but desiring that those on earth know the glory He has given you in the heavens has revealed your relics as a well-spring of healings and miracles. For immediately after your repose, as your body was being prepared for burial, the Lord worked wonders through your sweater, raising up a man who had been paralyzed for many years. Therefore, together with him we also gratefully cry to you:

Rejoice, speedy helper of those in need;
rejoice, constant stream of mercy by which we are cleansed!
Rejoice, physician of soul and body;
rejoice, new pool of Siloam, healing the infirm!
Rejoice, sweet myrhh of compassion;
rejoice, miracle worker of the faithful!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 12

Multitudes of the faithful from all lands continually flee to your shrine, O holy one, and from your precious relics faithfully obtain divine grace and answers for their every petition. O Father, as you know how, fulfill you also the petitions of those who now cry: Alleluia!

Ikos 12

Singing praises we glorify you, O all-praised Nektarios; for in you God Who is glorified in the Trinity is wonderfully glorified. But even if we were to offer you a multitude of psalms and hymns composed from the soul, O holy wonderworker, we should do nothing to equal the gift of your miracles, and amazed by them we cry unto you:

Rejoice, you who conquered all the snares of the Evil One;
rejoice, you who were sanctified both in soul and body!
Rejoice, speedy helper of those in need;
rejoice, restoration of health to the sick!
Rejoice, healer of diseases by the Grace of God;
rejoice, helper of those that suffer cruelly!
Rejoice, O Father Nektarios, model of patience and lover of virtue.

Kontakion 13

As a partaker in the life of heaven and a dweller with the angels, O Father Nektarios, in that you labored to please God, accept our present offering, and unceasingly intercede for your flock and for all the Orthodox who honor you, that we may be healed of all diseases of both body and soul, that together with you in the eternal Kingdom we may unceasingly cry: Alleluia! (Three times)

Repeat Ikos 1 and Kontakion 1

AT THE LITTLE VESPERS

At, Lord, I cry: four stichera shall be sung,

Tone 4
In the latter years hast thou followed the steps of the saints, O bishop Nectarius, by the purity of thy life and goodness of thy ways, true wisdom and works of love: for which cause the Master of all hath sanctified thee, and numbered thee with honour among the saints.
Thou hast received into thy heart the sweetness of grace, ? holy Nectarius, and with the sweetness of thy words thou rejoicest in the Spirit the souls of the faithful, having wisdom and inspiration of God; and by thy miracles, as by a shining light, thou illuminest continually the Church of Christ, that is resplendent with thy glory.
Unto thy venerable relics we turn with devotion, ? righteous Nectarius, which are a sweet savour of heaven, glorified by the grace of the divine Spirit, and from them we obtain sanctification and deliverance from passions: and those that are grieved with incurable sicknesses receive swift healing, and loudly honour thee.
Shelter unceasingly the cloister which thou hast builded and hedged with a rule for the saving of souls; preserve the island of Aegina: and freely give, O Nectarius, thy swift help, ever making intercession for her before the Lord, together with blessed Dionysius, her chief shepherd.
Glory: Tone 1
O come, all ye faithful, let us venerate Nectarius, new luminary of the Church: for in our days he hath lived godly in holiness and truth, and rivalled the virtues of the saints of old: and being a chosen vessel, as was Paul, he hath been glorified by the sanctifying grace of the Spirit, and granteth each one his petitions that are unto salvation, as a hierarch filled with all the fulness of God.
Now: To the Mother of God
Receive the prayer of sinners, O most holy Virgin; overlook not the groaning of the afflicted: and pray him that was born of thy chaste womb, that we obtain salvation.
At the Aposticha
Tone 2
By the word of grace, thou pourest upon the Church of Christ spiritual sweetness, O Nectarius, being purified in spirit.
V. Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
A truly great servant of the Lord hast thou shewn thyself in the last times, ? Nectarius, and strengthened the faithful.
V. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
The Church of Christ spiritually rejoiceth, beholding thy grace, which thou receivedst from heaven, O Nectarius our father.
Praise becometh thee, and glory, O Almighty Godhead:
threefold Light; for thou hast glorified thy godly hierarch.
By sacred words, ? Virgin and Mother of God, divine Nectarius proclaimeth thy glory, being glorified by the Spirit.
Lord, now lettest: Trisagion, and the Troparion as set forth at the end of Great Vespers. And the Dismissal.

AT THE GREAT VESPERS

After the Introductory Psalm there shall follow, Blessed is the man:
And at, Lord, ? cry: six stichera shall be sung.
Tone 1
? strange wonder! In the last times, as a burning and a shining light, wise Nectarius hath lightened the world, and shed upon the faithful the abundant light of the gospel, by his divine word, by a life that was blameless and sublime. Wherefore he hath been glorified with the gift of the Comforter: and to them that ask he ever granteth healing.

How marvelous is thy providence, ? Christ! For so as thou hast promised, thou hast glorified wondrously wise Nectarius as thine own friend with the gift of miracles; who by his glorious life glorified thee, ? Saviour, who manifestly declarest unto all the power of love toward thee. Wherefore by his prayers, O thou supremely good, grant us remission of sins and perfect peace.

Today the congregations of the faithful rejoice for joy in the new solemnity of thy memorial, O holy Nectarius, and sing aloud thy praises; and the Church of Christ mystically rejoiceth in thy glory, having found thee in the last days a sure foundation. And especially the island of Aegina maketh glad: for that she possesseth for her wealth thy fragrant relics.
Tone 2
With what crowns of praise shall we wreath Nectarius? who lately manifest hath shone forth and illuminated the Church with the brightness of godliness: who is the new adorning of the faithful, of like zeal with the hierarchs of old; for having walked wisely in their ways, he hath been glorified of Christ, who granteth great mercy to all by his prayers.

With what sweet melody and song shall we praise Nectarius? the divine servant of God; treasure of virtues and harp of theology: who but now hath refreshed the Church with the heavenly sweet wine of godliness, by the divine word of grace proceeding from wise lips; who hath shed abroad the gift of miracles that he received from on high, being chosen of God.

With what spiritual utterance shall we bless thee, O Nectarius? who in the midst of the world didst live a life truly most godly, holy and blameless in deed; who then didst establish a monastery holy unto God, for another tranquil haven for souls, in the island of Aegina: which do thou continually preserve, O Saint, together with her bishop Dionysius wise in God.
Glory: Tone 6
Today is risen upon us, as a newly shining star, the joyful solemnity of bishop Nectarius, illumining the Church. Come therefore, ye multitudes of the faithful, let us cry unto him with the voice of rejoicing: Hail, thou whose life did mirror that of the saints of old, in the evil days, when the love of many hath waxed cold, as spake the Saviour; Hail, thou that unitedst virtue with instruction: who by the word of thy wisdom hast enlightened the souls of the faithful; Hail, thou beauty of the episcopate, defence of Aegina, and thy monastery's very present help. Wherefore, O most blessed Nectarius, forasmuch as thou standest before the throne of the divine Majesty, make perpetual intercession for them that keep with faith thine ever-venerable memorial.
Now: To the Mother of God
Who shall not call thee blessed, O most holy Virgin? Who shall not praise thy childing without travail? For the only-begotten Son, who shone forth eternally from the Father: this same came forth from thee, O undefiled, ineffably made flesh; being God by nature, and become man by nature for our sake: not divided into a duality of persons, but known in two natures without confusion. Beseech him, O Virgin most blessed, that our souls may obtain mercy.

And the Entrance, and the Hymn, O tender Light; and the Prokeimenon of the day, and the Lessons.
The Reading from the Proverbs (Chapter 10, verse 7)
THE memory of the just is praised: and the blessing of the Lord is upon his head. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than treasures of gold and silver. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things that are prized are not to be compared unto her. For out of her mouth proceedeth justice: and in her tongue is law and mercy. Hear therefore, O ye children; for I will speak of excellent things; and blessed is the man that keepeth my ways. For my outgoings are the issues of life, and in them is prepared favour of the Lord. For this cause I call unto you; and my voice is to the sons of man. For I wisdom dwell with counsel, and summon knowledge and thought. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: understanding is mine, and strength. I love them that love me; and those that seek me shall find grace. Therefore, O ye simple, understand subtilty: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. Hear me yet again; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and false lips are an abomination before me. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing crooked or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. For I shall teach you truth, that your trust may be in the Lord, and ye be filled with the Spirit.
The Reading from the Wisdom of Solomon (Chapter 4, verse 7)
THOUGH the righteous be prevented with death, yet shall he be in rest. For honourable age is not that which standeth in length of time, nor that is measured by number of years. But wisdom is the gray hair unto men, and an unspotted life is old age. He pleased God, and was beloved of him: so that living among sinners he was translated. Yea, speedily was he taken away, lest that wickedness should alter his understanding, or deceit beguile his soul. For the bewitching of naughtiness doth obscure things that are honest; and the wandering of concupiscence doth undermine the simple mind. He, being made perfect in a short time, fulfilled a long time: for his soul pleased the Lord: therefore hasted he to take him away from among the wicked. This the people saw, and understood it not, neither laid they up this in their minds, That his grace and mercy is with his saints, and that he hath respect unto his chosen.
The Reading from the Wisdom of Solomon
(Chapter 10, verse 31)
THE mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom, and the lips of the righteous know what is acceptable. The mouth of the wise speaketh wisdom: and righteousness delivereth them from death. When a righteous man dieth, his hope perisheth not: for a righteous son is born unto life; and in prosperity shall he gather the fruit of righteousness. The righteous ever have light, and they shall obtain grace and glory of the Lord. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright, and wisdom resteth in their heart. The Lord loveth hearts that are holy, and all are acceptable unto him that are undefiled in the way. The wisdom of the Lord maketh the face to shine of him that hath understanding. For she preventeth them that desire her, in making herself first known unto them: yea, she is easily seen of them that love her. Whoso seeketh her early shall have no great travail: and whoso watcheth for her shall quickly be without care. For she goeth about seeking such as are worthy of her, and sheweth herself favourably unto them in the ways. Vice shall not prevail against wisdom. For this cause I was a lover of her beauty. I loved her, and sought her out from my youth, I desired to make her my spouse. For the Lord of all things himself loved her. For she is privy to the mysteries of the knowledge of God, and a lover of his works. Her labours are virtues: for she teacheth temperance and prudence, justice and fortitude: which are such things, as men can have nothing more profitable in their life. If a man desire much experience, she knoweth things of old, and conjectureth aright what is to come: she knoweth the subtilties of speeches, and can expound dark sentences: she foreseeth signs and wonders, and the events of seasons and times. And she is a good counsellor unto all, because in her is immortality; and in talking with her, a good report. For this cause I prayed unto the Lord, and besought him, and with my whole heart I said, 0 God of my fathers, and Lord of mercy, who hast made all things with thy word, and ordained man through thy wisdom, that he should have dominion over the creatures which thou hast made, and order the world according to equity and righteousness: Give me wisdom, that sitteth by thy throne; and reject me not from among thy children: for I am thy servant and son of thine handmaid. O send her out of thy holy dwelling place, and from the throne of thy glory, that being present she may teach me what is pleasing unto thee. And she shall lead me in knowledge, and preserve me in her power. For the thoughts of mortal man are miserable, and our devices are but uncertain.
At the Lite, the Stichera,
Tone 1
Rejoice in the Lord, O Church of God: be glad and rejoice, thou chosen bride of the heavenly King. For, behold, in our generation the true high priest of Christ, righteous Nectarius, sealeth yet once more the things taught thee of God of old, and loudly proclaimeth them by the glory wherewith he hath been glorified by the only God. Wherefore possessing him for pillar and ground, beholding the grace of his miracles, cry unto thy bridegroom: O Lord, glory be to thee.
 Tone 2
Who will not leap for joy? Who rejoiceth not in spirit in the new solemnity of bishop Nectarius? For every soul maketh glad to see him glorified, of like eminence with the saints: resplendent with miracles. Wherefore as we call blessed his glorious life and the holiness of his excellencies, let us cry aloud: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever.
Tone 3
Let us take the words of David, and unto Nectarius, initiate in sacred things, rightly cry: Happy art thou, and it shall be well with thee, O most blessed father: for thou hast lived in integrity, blamelessly, minding heavenly things while in this life, shewing thyself an high priest holy and harmless; and fitly fulfilling things pertaining to God, wisely hast thou ministered to the Church of Christ: and being glorified worthily with the gift of miracles, thou preventest those in tribulation, and grantest each his petitions that are unto salvation.
Tone 4
The word of grace distinguished thee: thou didst shew thyself approved unto God, a workman of the gospel of peace, O Father Nectarius, from whose divine mouth came forth words of prophecy. And departing from the confusion of the world, by stillness thou wast oned with God, abiding in the isle of Aegina; and there didst thou raise a house of prayer, and to the nuns becamest a type of the virtues, a father and teacher: and like the saints hast thou fallen asleep, and prayest continually for our souls.
Same Tone
How holy thy life, how acceptable unto God, O divinely inspired Nectarius. How strange the wonders which thou daily irmest through the grace given thee. Who then shall not be astonied at thee, who truly art wonderful? Who shall not glorify thee, who art glorified of God? For thy relics are found a well-spring of healing: for they cure grievous sicknesses and cast out unclean spirits; and all who turn to thee in faith obtain salvation of soul and healing of body, arid .glorify Christ, who wondrously hath glorified thee.
Glory: Tone 5
Come, ye kindreds of the faithful: let us hasten to Aegina. Come, behold strange wonders which of late the hand of the most High hath wrought. For he that cannot lie hath glorified, according to his promise, with eternal gifts Nectarius wise in God, for that he hath won renown comformable to the gospel. Wherefore his venerable relics are filled with fragrance and made a fount of healing for those who draw nigh with devotion. Let us, being replenished therefrom with the savour of life, cry like David: Great art thou, O Lord: there is no end of thy greatness. Whereby, O lover of mankind, do thou save our souls.
Now: To the Mother of God
We bless thee, O Mother of God and Virgin; we faithful rightly glorify thee: thou strong tower that cannot be shaken, impregnable house of defence, invincible help and shield, and refuge of our souls.

At the Aposticha, the Stichera,
Tone 5
Hail, thou who in the last times art risen as a star resplendent in the heavens, who by the brightness of thy miracles hast enlight-ened in spirit those darkened by passions; thou mind inspired of God, filled with divine light; who with understanding didst meditate, as it is written, in the law of our God. O Father Nectarius, thou radiant luminary, who while yet in the midst of life didst send forth the light of godliness unto the ends of the earth: entreat Christ that great mercy be granted our souls.
V. My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
Living the spiritual life, minding heavenly things, O bishop Nectarius, thou didst shew thyself a worthy receptacle of the Holy Spirit, being exalted by humility. And by the goodness of thy ways and simplicity of manner, thou didst manifest the brightness of thy soul, whereby thy lot is among the saints. Wherefore encompassing the fragrant shrine of thy relics, let us cry in compunction: Grant each of us salvation of soul and body.
V. Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
The Church of Christ rejoiceth, O Nectarius, to see thee glorified with heavenly glory, and she magnifieth him who gave thee the gift of miracles. And especially the island of Aegina is filled with gladness: for to her belong thy relics for a treasure ofsanctification which faileth not. And more than they doth thy holy monastery rejoice, looking continually to thee and crying with tears: Thou art my glory, and the lifter up of mine head; thou art my shield, O my father and protector.
Glory: Tone 8
Thy soul, being now sanctified, dwelleth in the heavenly Jerusalem with the spirits of the saints, O illustrious Nectarius; while thy grace-filled relics lie in the island of Aegina; which are a God-given treasure, a remedy freely given for all manner of sickness and every affliction: for sufferers having recourse to them from every place, receive healing and the granting of their petitions that are unto salvation; and with the voice of thanksgiving they glorify the Lord who hath glorified thee. Make supplication unto him, we pray thee, for our souls.
Now: To the Mother of God
O Virgin unwedded, who ineffably conceivedst God in the flesh, Mother of the most High God: receive the supplications of thy servitors; 0 thou most blameless, who hast obtained for all the purging of their sins: be favourable at this present to our entreaties, and pray that all we may find salvation.
Then, Lord, now lettest: Trisagion, and after. Our Father:
Troparion: Tone 1
O ye faithful, let us honour Nectarius: child of Selybria and patron of Aegina; true friend of virtue, manifest in the last times a godly servant of Christ: for he poureth forth healing abundantly upon them that cry in reverence: Glory be, to Christ who hath glorified thee; glory be to him who hath magnified thee; glory be to him who through thee worketh healing for all.
Glory: Another Troparion: Tone 4
Thou hast lived holily, being a bishop rich in wisdom; thou hast glorified the Lord by thy virtuous life, O Saint Nectarius. Wherefore, being glorified by the power of the Comforter, thou drivest out evil spirits and healest the sick who come unto thy sacred relics in faith.
Now: To the Mother of God
The mystery which hath been hid from ages, being unknown of the angels, through thee, O Mother of God, is made manifest to those on earth: God incarnate in a union without confusion, and willingly accepting the cross for us men; through which he hath raised up him that was first made, and saved our souls from death.
And the Dismissal.

AT THE MATINS

After the first Reading from the Psalter,
Sessional Hymn: Tone 1
Thou art risen upon us as the sun, in the last times, glorious in the holiness of thy life, O Saint Nectarios, and hast aroused all men to give glory and praise to Christ, the Master of all, who hath glorified thee, 0 Father, with power to do wonders.
Glory: Same Tone
By the gift of God, thine all-venerable head daily welleth forth healings, O Saint, mystically rejoicing with the sweetsmelling savour of the Spirit, those who with reverence and love hasten to thy holy monastery.
Now: To the Mother of God
From virgin blood thou barest the Master of all, who suffered no change thereby, and after the ineffable childbirth didst abide a virgin. Wherefore all we extol thy mighty works, O Maiden, and by thy fervent intercession we hope to obtain salvation.

After the second Reading from the Psalter,
Sessional Hymn: Tone 3
The purity of thy, life and righteousness of thy ways hath the Lord received as a spiritual offering; and in Aegina hath he manifested thee a well-spring of healings for such as turn in faith unto thy holy relics, whence all derive the sweet savour of heaven.
Glory: Same Tone
I he minds of the faithful are amazed in truth at the gift of miracles given thee of God, that worketh through thy divine relics. Wherefore in multitudes they come, of high and low degree, unto thy cloister; and the sick receive health at thy prayers, O Saint, and in gladness praise Christ who hath sanctified thee.
Now: To the Mother of God
He who upholdeth all creation, who is Maker of the worlds, was wholly contained past understanding in thy womb, departing not from his dwelling with the Father, O undefiled. And he came forth from thee in two natures, perfect man and perfect God, and divinified Adam's nature, and saved the whole world. Entreat him, O parent of God, for the salvation of our souls.
After the Polyeleos,
Sessional Hymn: Tone 8
An expounder of the doctrines of the Church, an imparter of inspired teachings hast thou shewn thyself, O Saint, being a godly hierarch: by godliness guiding the minds of the faithful unto love divine and the way of salvation. Wherefore in wisdom, O Nectarios inspired of God, hast thou raised up in Aegina a monastery for the saving of souls; and the nuns thereof do venerate thy sacred relics, and celebrate with piety thy holy memorial.
Glory: Now: To the Mother of God
Knowing thee, O undefiled, for the pot that held the manna, and the reasonable and luminous candlestick divinely bright: for he practised virtue, godly Nectarios hath worthily been enlightened in soul and mind by thine illumination. Wherefore in right faith hath he proclaimed thee Virgin in very truth, who wholly inviolate didst bare Christ, 0 all-praised Mother of God. And enjoying now the incomprehensible brightness of thy Son, with the angels, O pure Lady, he magnifieth thy speechless glory.

The first Antiphon of the Songs of degrees: Tone 4.
Prokeimenon: Tone 4
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
V. Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
The Gospel: according to S. Matthew (Chapter 24: 42-47)
THE Lord said: Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you. That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
And Psalm 51
Glory:
By the prayers of thy bishop Nectarios, O thou who art merciful, blot out the multitude of our iniquities.
Now:
By the prayers of the Mother of God, O thou who art merciful, blot out the multitude of our iniquities.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Versicle: Tone 6
Today God-filled Nectarios, the new luminary of the Church, having finished the course of virtue, hath journeyed unto heaven: and dwelling in the brightness of the saints, he manifestly partaketh of the tree of life, being exalted unto glory, and he entreateth for us that we be delivered from all perils, and obtain perpetual peace and great mercy.
And the Prayer, O God, save thy people:
And the Canons: of the Canon of the Mother of God 6 troparia (Including the Irmos); of the two Canons of the Saint 4 troparia from each.
The Canon of the Mother of God: Tone 1 Canticle I: Irmos
SING we all a triumphal song unto God, who doing marvellous things and wonders, with an outstretched arm, hath saved Israel: For he is gloriously magnified.                   (twice)

O thou who didst bear in the flesh Christ our God, the well-spring of grace: make grace abound to my lips, O Virgin, that I may rightly praise thy mighty works.

O Virgin, thou art the fruitful field, yet never tilled, that without seed didst bear the Lord of life, who hath quickened us out of the ancient corruption: For he is gloriously magnified.

Dark sayings and prophetic utterance are accomplished in thee, O Virgin undefiled: for thou hast borne Christ, who plainly hath fulfilled the types and shadow of the law.

By the divine Spirit, O Virgin, Isaiah declared thee the rod that blossomed: for thou hast ineffably brought forth Christ God, the mystical flower.
The Canon of the Saint: having the Same Tone and Irmos
By the light of thy prayers dispel all darkness from my mind; and put a word in my mouth, that joyfully I may praise thy sacred memory, O Nectarios, who doest wonders.

In the latter years thou art risen a sun that knoweth no setting; and by the light of thy works, O Father, wondrously hast thou caused the light of the gospel to shine unto all the ends of the earth.

By the purity of thy life, O Saint, thou hast followed in the steps of Christ's hierarchs of old, and equally partakest of their glory.
To the Mother of God
Unconsumed hast thou borne in thy womb the importable Nature, O Virgin undefiled, and brought forth in the flesh without change or confusion Christ, the Maker of all.
Another Canon of the Saint: Tone 4 Irmos: I will open my mouth:
Filled with the streams of the Spirit by the excellency of thy life, thou wellest forth divine waters of grace, and rejoicest our minds, O holy Nectarios, with thy gifts.

With gladness the holy Orthodox Church singeth praises unto thee in thy festival; and she commendeth the new solemnity, and by thy holiness confoundeth her enemies.

From thy youth thou didst adorn thy life with uprightness, manifesting thyself a true lover of virtue and initiate of wisdom, by godly-mindedness, O Father Nectarios.
To the Mother of God
By thy divine words thou didst praise the Queen of all, Mary ever-Virgin, and from her didst receive invincible strength, O Saint, wherewith in life thou didst bravely endure the assault of temptations.
Katavasia
I  will open my mouth: and it will be filled with the Spirit; and I will utter my word unto the Queen and Mother: And I shall be seen joyfully to keep festival; and with gladness shall I sing her wondrous works.
Canticle III: Irmos
LET my heart be established in thy will, O Christ God, who didst stretch out the second heaven above the waters; and upon the waters, O Almighty, didst establish the earth.

Let me praise the Mother of God, the undefiled tabernacle of the Word, the sanctuary of the divine glory, the spiritual heaven, whence arose for the life of the world the Sun that hath no setting.

Thou hast escaped the laws of nature, O Mother of God: for thou hast borne without corruption or change the Lord and giver of the law, and hast instituted by the Spirit the laws of the new life.

Thou hast shewn thyself the mountain unhewn, the mountain overshadowed by the forest, the mountain rich in the Spirit, whence appeared unto us, 0 Lady, he that toucheth the hills and they smoke, as righteous David told.

In holy songs let her be praised, who is the ark of holiness, the divine mercyseat of the good pleasure of God, the paradise of sweet savour, the Virgin and Queen.
The Canon of the Saint
Grounded in divine love from thy youth, O Father Nectarios, thou hast chosen to follow Christ, and in wisdom didst put all vanities far from thee.

By the word of thy lips, O Father, thou instillest heavenly sweetness into the hearts of those that receive thy doctrine in faith, and thou ihstructest the minds of the faithful in the things that are more excellent.

Thou hast shewn thyself a new adorning of hierarchs, O bishop Nectarios: for by purity of life thou wast clothed with true holiness. Wherefore we declare thy praise.
To the Mother of God
Beautiful past understanding with the splendour of thy virginity, past nature hast thou borne God made flesh, and by thy ding annulled Eve's condemnation.

Another Canon of the Saint Irmos: Establish them that render praises:
In wisdom hast thou walked in the steps of the saints, following them in purity of deed; thou hast sanctified thy mind in all holiness, O blessed Nectarios, and made pure thy heart.

By the sprinkling of holy water, O Nectarios, thou didst rid away the blight from trees and crops; and to the people ofAegina hast thou shewn thyself rich in divine grace, being made wondrous by the Holy Spirit.

Desiring stillness, thou didst build in Aeginaa holy monastery, O Saint; and there becamest unto the nuns, O Nectarios, an example of godly works.
To the Mother of God
As Mother of the merciful God, O Virgin, have pity on me, and heal the burning heat of my soul, I pray thee, with the dew of thy grace; that being granted salvation I may magnify thee.
Katavasia
Establish them that render praises unto thee, who proclaim a spiritual feast, 0 Mother of God, thou fountain abounding with living waters; and by the divine glory that is thine, vouchsafe them crowns of glory.
Sessional Hymn: Tone 5
Thou hast finished the course of virtue, O Saint; divinely hast thou been translated unto endless life; thou art found a companion of the saints, O Nectarios: with whom do thou continue in prayer before Christ the Lord of all, that remission of sins and salvation of soul be given them that rejoice in thy memorial.
Glory: Now: To the Mother of God
Unto the most precious vessel wherein God enclosed himself, the Maiden ever-Virgin, the inviolate Mother of God, let us sing lauds, O ye faithful, and praises: for she hath delivered us from the ancient curse, having borne without knowledge of wedlock the transcendent Word, unto the salvation of our souls.
Canticle IV: Irmos
IN the Spirit, O prophet Habakkuk, didst thou foresee the incarnation of the Word, and didst proclaim it, crying; When the years draw nigh thou shalt be made known; when the time is come thou shalt be revealed. Glory be unto thy power, O Lord. (twice)

Thine undefiled womb hath been shewn forth a spiritual throne by Christ the Word of God, who is ever in the bosom of the Father, and in thee was wholly joined to my whole substance. Wherefore we rightly praise thee.

Thou art the gate foreseen of Ezekiel, O undefiled Mother of God, shining with the glory of virginity, through which did pass the Word, the Creator of all things, who after the childbirth did leave thee shut.

Thou art shewn forth the Zion of God, a fruitful garden, bed , decked with purple, ladder raised on high; for being proclaimed beforehand in the law by figures, thou hast made manifest the reality of the types: for of thee the Creator assumed a body.

Unburned hast thou conceived the paternal Light: him who spake in Sinai in fire and thick darkness: and as the bush was not consumed, O Mother of God, so hast thou borne as a babe in thine arms the Maker of all creation.
The Canon of the Saint
Thou hast lived holily on earth, and now in heaven art found a companion of all holies; and thy shrine is a fount of sanctification and of healing, O Bishop, for such as are in tribulation and grieved with sickness.

Thou hast ministered in righteousness and purity, as a priest acceptable unto Christ that worketh all; thou hast presented him as a pure sacrifice thine undefiled life, O bishop rich in wisdom. Wherefore thou art rightly glorified.

Thy most holy head wondrously healeth all manner of diseases and grievous sufferings: for the divine grace indwelling it worketh in divers ways for them that draw near, according to the proportion of faith.
To the Mother of God
Ke that before was immaterial was born of thy womb in our form, remaining very God, restoring Adam from the curse: and he hath made children of God them that in faith glorify thee as Mother of God.
Another Canon of the Saint
Irmos: He that sitteth in glory:
Thy shrine is sweet, O Father, with the fragrance of the Spirit and the heavenly savour of life, gladdening, O blessed Nectarios, those who come to it.

Thou hast cut off the lusts of the body, O Saint, by fervent prayer and temperance; and by divine love hast thou upraised powers of thy soul unto illumination by the Spirit.

Thou hast followed blamelessly in thy righteous ways Dionysius, the divine pastor of Aegina; with whom thou art made a partaker of the glory on high, O Saint: pray that thine island be preserved for ever.
To the Mother of God
For that thou didst bear in the flesh the incorporeal Lord, O full of grace, thou art exalted in holiness above the bodiless powers: and all we do praise thy glory.
Katavasia
Habakkuk the prophet considered the unsearchable divine counsel of thine incarnation of the Virgin, O most High, and shouted: Glory be unto thy power, O Lord.
Canticle V: Irmos
GRANT us thy peace, O Son of God; for we know none other God but thee, we call upon thy name: because thou art God of both the living and the dead.                           (twice)

Thou didst amaze the choirs of angels by thy giving birth, and by thy childing didst save the race of men: for inviolate, O Virgin, thou didst bear Christ, who uniteth things that are opposed.

Heal my soul, O thou wholly undefiled: for it is full of the poison of wickedness and sin; and lead me by thy grace, O Virgin, unto the light of a virtuous life.

The Word found thee as a sweet flower among thorns; he dwelt in thee and in thy womb took flesh, having predestinated thee, O Virgin, before the worlds.

A garment was woven fearfully from thy blood for him that from non-being did establish all things: for in thee, O Maiden, he took flesh, having predestinated thee, O Virgin, before the worlds.
The Canon of the Saint
By the wisdom of the Spirit and the words of life, O Father Nectarios, thou hast admonished the hearts of the faithful unto a more perfect way, being a wise preacher of the gospel.

Clothed in the raiment of a high priest, by virtuous deeds, O wise Nectarios, hast thou adorned it richly, being a most godly hierarch and steward of the mysteries of God.

Being renowned for understanding and meekness, inspired of God, wisely didst thou gather together holy virgins, and didst lead them unto Christ by the words and actions of a blameless life.
To the Mother of God
Illumine my soul, O undefiled, and lighten the gross darkness of the passions in thy pity, O Virgin; and pierce me wholly with divine fear.
Another Canon of the Saint
Irmos: The whole creation wondered:
Thy shrine, O Father Nectarios, ever welleth abundant healings through the plentiful rain of the Comforter; and at all times it driveth away evil spirits from them that seek thy grace.

Thou grantest healing to the sick and release to the suffering who turn to thee; thou curest chronic diseases; and by the dew of thy grace, O Father, thou quenchest the burning of those stricken with fever.

Thou art equal in honour with the fathers of old: for in godly zeal and all other virtues thou hast followed their ways, being distinguished by true lowliness and simplicity, O Nectarios.
To the Mother of God
Thou treasure of purity, O Virgin most blameless, thou alabaster box, living and divine, of the myrrh of life poured forth in thee: make thou my soul a receptacle of the sweet savour of virtues, through holiness of life.
Katavasia
The whole creation wondered at thy divine glory: for thou, O Virgin, knowing not wedlock, hast conceived in thy womb him who is God above all, and borne a Son who was from before all times, who rewardeth with salvation all them that singthy praise.
Canticle VI: Irmos
LIKE Jonah the prophet I cry: Deliver my life from corruption, O thou who art good; and save me, O Saviour of the world, who cry: Glory be to thee.                            (twice)

The Son who shone forth from the Father before the worlds, hath come forth from thy womb in the last days, O Virgin and Mother, and divinified the substance of mortal man.

Chaste bride of the Father, inviolate Mother of the Son art thou shewn forth in very truth: thou who art fair among women, Virgin undefiled, presanctified by the Spirit.

Wondrous treasure of divine mysteries, ark of heavenly gifts, avcrlaid with gold, art thou plainly made manifest, O thou most blameless: for thou hast brought forth Christ.

Dread workshop of the incarnation, and bride-chamber filled with light art thou revealed, O Virgin: for from thy blood God took on him the form of our flesh.
The Canon of the Saint
As a star new risen hast thou shone forth in the last times, O Father Nectarios, and inflamed the hearts of the faithful unto divine love.

For that thy conversation upon earth was godly and prudent in the evil days, as saith wise Paul, thou hast received of the Lord great glory.

Because thou didst establish thy holy monastery steadfast in the fear of God, thou madest it a tranquil haven, O Nectarios, for the salvation of souls.
To the Mother of God
O thou who hast borne in the flesh the Maker of all and Redeemer of Adam from the ancient curse: deliver me, O thou most blameless, from the darkness of the passions.
Another Canon of the Saint Irmos: O clap your hands:
Having received in thy heart the divine fragrance of grace, O holy Nectarios, now hast thou sent forth heavenly sweet savour unto the Church of Christ.

Divinely chosen among hierarchs, O Father Nectarios, among teachers divinely wise, in very truth wast thou adorned by thine own virtues.

Like a sweetsmelling rose, O Father Nectarios, thy head rejoiceth us with the divine fragrance of the Spirit, and causeth to cease the foul savour of passions and afflictions.
To the Mother of God
Give me strength, O thou most pure, against the ancient foe, who daily lieth in wait for me, working deceit: that I may be kept from all his hurt.
Katavasia
O clap your hands, all ye people: Come, ye godly-minded, that keep this all-venerable feast, sacred to the Mother of God: and let us glorify Christ born of her.
Kontakion: Tone 8
Unto him who is newly risen a light of the true faith,
And new-builded a rampart of the Church,
Let us sing praises in gladness of heart:
For being glorified by the operation of the Spirit
He poureth abundant grace of healings
Upon them that cry: Hail, Father Nectarios.
Ikos
Thou wast shewn forth unto the world a heavenly-minded man, O Nectarios, bishop of Christ: for thou didst lead a righteous life, and wast in all things sincere and holy and inspired. Wherefore from our lips thou hearest,
Hail, thou through whom the faithful are lifted up;
Hail, thou through whom the enemy is seized with wonder;
Hail, thou that art equal with the holy fathers;
Hail, thou divine teacher of Orthodox Christians;
Hail, most holy house which God hath builded;
Hail, book of the new life, divinely printed;
Hail, for thou hast newly rivalled the saints;
Hail, for wisely hast thou laid aside all earthly things;
Hail, thou bright banner of the faith;
Hail, thou sacred instrument of grace;
Hail, thou through whom the Church is filled with gladness;
Hail, thou through whom the island of Aegina rejoiceth;
Hail, Father Nectarios.

AT THE LITURGY

The Typica: at the Beatitudes the troparia from the third and sixth Canticles of the Canon of the Saint.
The Lesson
Prokeimenon: Tone 7
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
V. What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?
The Reading is from the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians.  (Chapter 5, verses 8-19)
BRETHREN: Walk as children of light: (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) proving t is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Wherefore he saith. Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
Alleluia: Tone 1
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
V. For the Lord hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
The Gospel
The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew. (Chapter 4:25 to Chapter 5:12)
AT that time: There followed Jesus great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: and he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my name's sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven.
Communion Verse
The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings.  Alleluia.
Megalynaria
Thou hast shewn thyself unto the Church a new luminary in the last times by thy holy life: wherefore with spiritual rays thou illuminest the minds of the faithful, O Father Nectarios.
By Christ wast thou glorified in splendour with the gift of miracles upon thy blessed end: wherefore thy shrine welleth all manner of healings, O Father, unto the afflicted.
Preserve and shelter thy monastery, O Father Nectarios, that devoutly honoureth thee; and ever bless the island of Aegina and the whole of Greece with thy help and succour.
Couplet
Saint Nectarios, pray for us sinners.
